YDA Films Selected for DocuWest 2020 Film Festival

YDA films RIGHT OF MIND by Maddison Goddard, I’LL BE THERE by Kallista Palapas, and WOLF by Koya Lockwood Flescher have just been selected for screening at Denver’s DocuWest Film Festival!

The event will be taking place at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on Sept 20-22, 2020.

The film, RIGHT OF MIND, by Maddison Goddard, chronicles the ways in which Americans with mental illness have been demonized as she also provides a poignant and gentle portrait of a mother and daughter working hand in hand to overcome stigma and live life openly and freely.

Director Kallista Palapas gives an unvarnished account of her friend, Ricky’s life and death in her film, I’LL BE THERE. Capturing intimate interviews and scenes with family, close friends, and even turning the camera on herself, Kallista wrestles intimately with issues and topics often swept under the carpet.  She looks forward to bringing her film to educators, youth, and service providers, especially in Colorado Springs, where the incidence of teen suicide is one of the highest in the nation.

The film WOLF, created by Koya Lockwood, tells the story of how her years on the rink – often in competition – have helped her manage coming-of-age anxieties. Turning the camera on her family, her teammates and herself, Koya creates a portrait of determination and poise, presenting a vivid model of how to engage in the world, and how to engage one’s deepest vulnerabilities.
