FILMMAKER SHOWCASE
Kalia Hunter
Kalia Hunter, 17, is a rising senior at Palmer High School, where, in addition to academic pursuits, plays rugby and captains her school’s mock trial team. Kalia came to YDA having identified an epidemic of teen suicide in Colorado Springs, including two recent deaths at Palmer High. Her film DOM, a deeply emotional and searing account of the life and death of Dominic Saunders, explores Dom’s vitality, the death of his mother, and the road to healing. In doing so, she opens dialogue around teen suicide prevention while providing a loving and intimate tool for grieving among her own community. Kalia hopes to attend Stanford University and continue studying media, photography and film.
