Youth Documentary Academy is Launched

On June 2, 2014, the first class of the Youth Documentary Academy met at the Bemis School of Art in Colorado Springs, CO.  Twelve students from seven area schools convened and began getting to know each other and instructors Aaron Burns and Suzan Beraza.  These twelve youth were chosen out of a competitive application pool for their interest in filmmaking and a clearly articulated vision for exploring a personal or social issue in documentary form.  Students met three times a week for four hours in class plus participated in individual tutorials to learn cameras, sound, and lighting.  What happened over the coming weeks was nothing short of magical.
