YDA Filmmakers win top awards in Boulder

Four Youth Documentary Academy filmmakers were represented at the Boulder International Film Festival last weekend, March 7, 2015.  Bailey Francisco’s film AFTER WAR was screened in the main festival’s short documentary program alongside Academy Award winning filmmaker Lucy Walker’s THE LION’S MOUTH OPENED.

Destiny Rinder, whose film ONE IN SIX competed in the Teen Filmmaking Competition won the best “Up and Coming Filmmaker” award.  And Andre Zimmermann’s film BUG OUT won the Best Documentary of the competition.  In addition, Sandy Schwertfeger, whose film OUR FOREVER HOME also competed, met and collaborated with Dane Fogdall, a young composer, to score original music for her film.

For nearly half of the 2014 YDA graduating class to be represented so meaningfully at the festival and teen competition is a tribute to our filmmakers!  Congrats Bailey, Destiny, Andre and Sandy.  You’re putting YDA on the map!
